The original idea behind Speedy Camel was developed after 10 years of extensive business travel around the world by Matthew Sanderson & Graham Hoyle. Matthew had been working for various Global companies and then went on to form his own business, Austonley, a successful building company. Graham came from a retail background with high street names before setting up his own business to give companies "Performance Enhancement".
Together they wanted to put something back into life and support people who could not always help themselves. The idea of speedycamel.co.uk is to do exactly that.
The name speedycamel comes from the delivery services used in Asia (a bit like Pony Express, but without the Americans and the guns). This was principally in the Kingdom of Bhutan.
speedycamel.co.uk has grown today, after a lot of hard work and perseverance, into a company that focuses on selling ethical products that help other and are economical to buy.
speedycamel.co.uk has an ecoplanting program which makes sure that not only are trees planted to offset all the products that are sold, but people may also offset their Carbon Footprint and we urge you to do so.
The site was developed with Big:Interactive who are experts in the field of designing and programming quality websites. Their client list includes such household names as Mastercard, Littlewood, Cadburys and Heals.
The site has one distinction over any other site. It was the first site in the world to be truly interactive. The are a small number of products on the site which you can haggle (barter) for. These are sold by a tenacious middle eastern shop keeper called AliBarter. Ali was designed and animations were put together by Motion Blur, whose works also include animations for Doctor Who.
The voice of AliBarter is that of our Persian friend, Mohammad Reza Behiyat. Mohammad also shares with us the desire to help those in the world who have been left less fortunate.
The uniqueness of the site was recognised by Google, who made speedycamel.co.uk one of it's launch partners and epages have used the site to demonstrate what their software can do when in the hands of companies like Big:Interactive.
We are currently working with TrustedShops.com who are launching their Eurepean secure shopping product into the UK.
The site will continue to expand in giving information on ethical issues, but let us know if you think there is anything else we could be discussing and information you want to see.
You can also see us at various shows and get feedback on the shows we have been to.
